Editorial policy

Clear enough to be useful. Honest about what is missing.

Our editorial standards are designed around reader trust: accurate identification, original explanation, visible spoilers, transparent automation, and a practical correction path.

Accuracy and scope

  • Identify the correct work before attaching editions or a summary.
  • Distinguish plot facts or stated arguments from interpretation.
  • Give substantial context instead of publishing thin, repetitive pages.
  • Represent limitations, criticism, and meaningful ambiguity where relevant.
  • Never invent quotations, page numbers, citations, or claims of firsthand reading.

The purpose is orientation and recall, not a substitute for the original text or for specialist scholarship.

Originality and sources

BookSummary.org summaries are newly written explanations. We do not copy publisher descriptions, commercial study guides, or another summarizer's prose. Bibliographic providers may supply factual metadata such as title, author, language, date, and identifiers; their records are kept distinct from summary content.

Short quotations may appear only when they are necessary for commentary and can be verified. They must be clearly marked and attributed.

Automated assistance

Automated systems may help create or structure summaries. Published pages disclose that process and retain generation provenance for internal accountability. Automated validation checks format and known risk patterns; it cannot guarantee perfect factual or interpretive judgment.

We do not publish intentionally deceptive, impersonating, defamatory, or unsafe material. A work that cannot be summarized responsibly with the available information should remain unpublished.

Corrections and removals

We correct material factual errors, wrong identifiers, misleading character or argument descriptions, and broken attribution. Updates create a new version rather than silently rewriting history. We may temporarily unpublish a page while a serious issue is reviewed.

Send corrections or rights concerns through the contact page. Include the page URL, the exact issue, and a reliable way to verify the correction. We do not accept payment for favorable coverage or for suppressing legitimate criticism.
